  Some people think that the interview is an unreliable way for a company to recruit new staff, and there are better selection methods. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

  Nowadays, it is quite common for a company to recruit new employees by interview. However, an increasing number of people argue that other selecting methods may be effective and interview is becoming unreliable. For my part, I side with the opponents to a larger extent based on following sound reasons.

  No one can conceal the fact that the reliability of interview can never be doubted. For one thing, interviews enable interviewers to meet interviewees in person. It is quite important on the grounds that interviewers can observe interviewees from a more comprehensive way, including their appearance and manners, to name but two. For some positions which need employees to communicate with other people face to face, airline stewardess and receptionist in particular, the good-looking employees or some temperament elegant staff do improve the external image of companies. For another, interview is a credible way to inspect staff’s inner ability, especially communication and reaction skills. If a candidate could answer questions successfully and properly, he would be regarded as the one with excellent interpersonal skills and good manners. Therefore, interview can guarantee companies to recruit qualified staff.

  Notwithstanding all that, except interview, there are some better selecting ways. Initially, written examination can save a great deal of time for a company since all the candidates can take such tests at the same time and it usually only requires one or two hours. On the contrary, the interview needs to inspect candidates one by one by asking the same questions, which definitely costs a large amount of time with low efficiency. Additionally, appointing recruit agents to employ new staff is another better selecting approach now that it can not only save time but also save human resources. By contrast, if one company wants to employ certain staff all by its human resources department, the time costs would be unpredictable.

  To sum up, interview is a reliable method to recruit new employees for a company, but other means may be advisable. Sometimes companies can choose a suitable way based on concrete situations.
