　　大男人喜欢当家作主，喜欢另一半乖乖听话，也又些男人特别惧妻，什么事都留待太太作主。如果你在这段关系中作主导，英文可以说：I wear the pants in this relationship.（我在这段关系中穿裤子），这句成语是指‘我是这段关系的掌权者’。其它较口语化的说法还有：I'm the boss.（我是老板）、I'm in charge.（我是主事者）。

　　从前中国妇女‘未嫁从父，既嫁从夫，夫死从子’，男人总是一家之主。传统西方家庭也是由穿裤子的男人掌权，所以英文成语to wear the pants/trousers（穿裤子）即‘当家作主’，常用来说牝鸡司晨，例如：(1) It is said of the couple that the wife wears the pants.（据说，他们夫妻之间，丈夫听命于妻子）。(2) Who wears the pants in the Huang family?（黄家由丈夫还是妻子作主？）Pants 是美式英语，trousers则是英式。
　　‘忽闻河东狮子吼，拄杖落手心茫然’的丈夫，英文称为henpecked husband。 Peck是‘啄’，例如：The woodpecker kept pecking at the tree.（啄木鸟不断啄那棵树）。丈夫惧内，英文为什么称为henpecked？原来鸡群之中，尊卑等级甚严。最强壮的，可以啄其下任何一只鸡；第二强壮的，可不能啄第一只；第三强壮的，可不能啄第一、第二只等等。最弱的一只，则只有被啄的份儿。这叫做pecking order或peck order（啄序）。从前的人不明白鸡群习性，见有些小公鸡常给母鸡啄，于是把惧内的丈夫称为henpecked husband，例如：Henpecked husbands are often laughed at.（惧内的丈夫被嘲笑）。
　　留意peck/pecking order也是成语，用来说‘权力等级’或‘尊卑之序’，例如：Low down in the company's pecking order, he had no say in the policy-making process.（他在公司的地位甚低，政策上没有他说话的余地）。 育路外语
